Hondos Centre

Hondos Centre is a large department store in Greece, selling cosmetics and accessories. This is their flagship store on Omonia Square, in the centre of Athens - a stone's throw from the Town Hall building I showed you in my previous post.

I took this photo because the huge poppy mural caught my attention. Poppies are everywhere in Greece during spring, and although it's a little too early for them at the moment, soon the green fields will burst with red colour.

If you're ever in Athens, there's a very nice cafe on the top floor of this Hondos Centre store.

I like this a lot. The red poppy poster is magnificent, but so is the building. It's so different from our cookie-cutter shopping malls. If I ever get to Athens I shall visit this place with plenty of credit cards!

I know Omonia Square, but probably many things changed in fifteen years. Beautiful building and a magnificent poster. It would have been perfect for the Theme Day!

I have been at that square on a few occasions. Always when it has been very warm. I remember staying at a youth hostel here on my first ever visit to Athens back in 1985. We slept up on the roof.

The poppies certainly add a welcome splash of colour

@ Jacob: One credit card should be enough. Well, maybe two ;-)

@ VP: Omonia has had a total facelift in the last 10 years or so. The new look isn't to everyone's liking, but I have to say it's growing on me.

@ Steffe: That sounds cool! Not sure it happens any more, it's probably way too noisy these days...

@ Mo: Cement-colour is very uninspiring, we need splashes of colour wherever we can get them.
