A church on Siros

I took this picture from the boat and had to zoom right in, so it's not very sharp. I like it because it illustrates the crowded architecture of Ermoupoli. I love the way the church is poking through the houses.

Looking up

These are some photos I took earlier in the week, when I attended my friend Pamela's graduation ceremony at the Old Royal Naval College Chapel in Greenwich. I was totally mesmerised by the elaborate ceiling, which was designed by James "Athenian" Stuart and William Newton after the original flat-panelled ceiling was destroyed in a 1779 fire.

A church with a difference

I have shown you Greek churches before, but this one is a little different. It's the church of Agia Foteini in Mantineia, in central Peloponnese.

Agia Foteini was built in the early 70's in a unique greco-byzantine style to match the Ancient Greek ruins in its vicinity. It's become very popular with locals and tourists alike, as it's so unusual.

Some call it the wonky church, others call it the Chinese church (due to its vague resemblance to a pagoda), but of course it's neither wonky, nor Chinese.

Aegina church

Agios Nektarios church on the island of Aegina. I don't think I've seen another church like it.
