Athenian open air cinema

The open air cinema is a Greek institution. As soon as the weather warms up sufficiently (usually around the end of May), many of the normal four-walls-and-a-ceiling cinemas close down and open air cinemas take over. They are situated on rooftops or open spaces like courtyards, parking lots and parks. There are close to 100 open air cinemas in Athens alone.

This one is situated within the Flisvos marina complex. The sea is just behind the projection screen. We were there to watch Knight And Day, starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.

I didn't know anything about this! We've had drive-in theaters for years, but nothing like this. I like a lot! (If the weather's good)...(and if the movie's good)!

I remember watching a few movies outdoors on one of my visits to Antiparos. I have never been to an outdoor cinema in Sweden.

I haven't been to an open air cinema for quite a while. I remember last time I watched one of the Almodovar movies. Great shot!

@ Jacob: The weather is Athens is just perfect for this kind of thing: warm and dry throughout summer - can't ask for more!

@ Steffe: Are there any outdoor cinemas in Sweden? There are no dedicated spaces in England that I know of, but then again we have the wrong kind of weather for open air anything.

@ Deepak: It's great!

@ JM: Do you have similar ones in Portugal?

@ Ρόμπερτ: I think if I lived in Athens, I'd go every week. I love open air cinemas and miss them so much!
