Butterfly and flower

This is a butterfly I photographed last month in Greece. Having spent ages looking through various butterfly websites, I think this is a High Brown Fritillary, which is quite rare in the UK.

Or it could be a Dark Green Fritillary. Or a Common Leopard (according to hubby).

Anyway, I don't know what it is, but it sure was quite pretty and I'm delighted it stood still long enough for me to snap this photo.

I do the same when I'm trying to know what I have just photographed...
Beautiful image anyway, what is the Greek for butterfly? I guess it will sound familiar from some science book...

The Greek for butterfly is petalouda. Not sure it'd sound familiar, it's not sciency enough IYKWIM. There's probably a more formal word for it with a Greek or Latin root which is used in science books.

You are right, never heard of it, but the name is nice!

Wow...the butterfly IS pretty. You've got a pretty nice shot. The flower is a marigold right?

Thank you. Yes, I think it's a marigold (I'm not very good with flowers).
