Holiday snaps

As you can see, the view I showed you in my previous post is very popular with the tourists who make it to the top of Greenwich park.

I stood on the base of the Wolfe statue to take this photo, with the Royal Observatory to my left.

Despite the clouds, visibility was quite good that day. If you look closely, you can even make out the Gherkin, which is located 7 kilometres away in the centre of London.

Very good shot. I like this place and I really have to go up there next time I am in London. By the way I am curious to know how is called the equivalent of Ferragosto in Greek...

We call it Dekapentavgousto (literally 15 August), but the wish we give is Xronia Polla, which means "many happy returns". Easier to remember and can be used for all happy occasions (except weddings).

If you go to the top of Greenwich Park, make sure you walk over to Blackheath and across the heath to Blackheath Village. Lots of photo opportunities :-)

Thank you for the answer and the advice, I have been in Greenwich many times but always too lazy to climb up there. Now I know better.
A bit late, let me say: Xronia Polla!

Prego! Efharistó :-)

Yes, the climb up is a bit daunting (I very rarely do it myself) but it's worth it for the flower garden, the deer enclosure and of course the Royal Observatory - where else can you stand with one leg in the east and the other in the west?

One way to do it is to take the train from central London to Blackheath, walk along the village, then across the heath and into Greenwich park. It's all flat walking until you reach the Observatory, then you have a nice downhill stroll to Greenwich proper.

Blackheath's in zone 3, so if you have a zone 1&2 travelcard, you'll need to buy an extra ticket to cover the travel from Lewisham to Blackheath.

Such a climb should be properly celebrated and documented. No wonder they are happily snapping along.

Gee, it's been eleven years since I visited London.

Quite popular indeed! :-)

As to your question, travelling is Burma was a one lifetime experience! Maybe not for beginers, but the month I spent there has one of the most amazing in my entire life!
